Disruptive New Offering Enables Scale and Interoperability for Both Legacy and Greenfield Applications
VMworld 2011 -Booth 232
Virtustream, Inc., a leading Cloud Services Provider, today announced multi-site clustering enhancements to its xStream cloud platform. This unprecedented move will allow clients to federate their private clouds with xStream, securely bursting into Virtustream’s multi-tenanted infrastructure on demand. Virtustream’s clients will now be able to follow the sun, seamlessly managing and scaling their applications across multiple data centers. The new service will still maintain the company’s best in class service levels and performance guarantees.
The xStream platform was purpose built two years ago to service the needs of enterprise customers seeking elasticity, cost reduction and business continuity. It was built upon the company’s Infrastructure Unit (IU) foundation, which it announced yesterday would be made available to the public. That foundation allows Virtustream to guarantee resource availability while allowing clients to pay only for what they use, when they use it.
The multi-site clustering enhancements will make xStream suitable for both legacy and web-scale applications and will also provide scale out capabilities previously only available from public cloud providers. “Applications will be able to traverse sites, improving user experience and optimizing the use of available capacity,” said Kevin Reid, CEO and CTO, Virtustream. “All while maintaining the performance and compliance characteristics required by the most discerning enterprises.”
To facilitate secure scaling from a client’s data center, xStream will incorporate state of art security protocols embedded within the Intel® Xeon® processor. “Our clients are constantly seeking ways to protect the integrity of their data as they reap the benefits of cloud computing,” said Raejeanne Skillern, Director of Marketing for Cloud, Intel. “Virtustream’s use of Intel® Trusted Execution Technology (Intel® TXT), a hardware-based security built-in to Intel Xeon processors, gives their clients peace of mind knowing that physical device level trust has been enabled in their environments.”
Last month Virtustream announced its Series B funding earmarked for developing xStream’s Software-as-a-Service offering. This is the first in a series of disruptive innovations slated for release in the coming months.
VMworld 2011 is the latest stop on Virtustream’s “Rockin’ the Cloud” tour, which has availed thousands of IT professionals and c-level executives to the proven capabilities of Virtustream’s Enterprise Cloud solutions. At VMworld, Virtustream’s “Cloud Rockstars” – including two of the first three non-VMware Certified Design Experts – will be available at the company’s booth (No. 232) to consult with attendees navigating enterprise challenges related to their virtualization or cloud computing strategies. In addition, Virtustream welcomes attendees to enter for a chance to win an electric guitar.
