Pella SmartSync to Integrate With Cloud-Based Home Management System

SmartSync technology, the newest innovation from Pella®, will integrate with the newest cloud-based home management system from Lowe’s, the world’s second-largest home improvement retailer.

Called Iris, the Lowe’s system is an affordable, cloud-based complete home management system that gives customers the ability to control and interact with their home from anywhere using their smart phone or computer. Iris will be available in Lowe’s stores and on Lowes.com during mid-2012.

Pella SmartSync is an integrated system that allows shades or blinds — like snap-in options in Pella Designer Series® 750 windows and patio doors sold at Lowe’s — to be controlled simply by a remote control or by a home or building automation system through Web-enabled devices like computers and most smart phones.

Integrated technology helps you monitor, control your home
“Pella SmartSync technology is designed to integrate with the intuitive new Lowe’s Iris home management system. Once these smart home products are each later available in 2012, combining SmartSync with the Iris system from Lowe’s will help you monitor and control operation of popular products like the blinds and shades in Pella windows and doors in your home,” said Pella Senior Manager Dan Wilcox, who’s working closely with the Lowe’s Iris and Pella SmartSync rollouts.

Upon its entry into the emerging smart home market later in 2012, Pella will provide products that can be easily integrated through SmartSync technology to provide convenience and peace of mind. With SmartSync you can program blinds or shades to open and close on your desired schedule, to help your home look occupied whether you are home or away, any time of the day or night.

To help save energy, Pella suggests homeowners open southern-facing window treatments in the winter to help let in the sun’s warming rays during the day, and close them at night to help keep heat in as outdoor temperatures drop. Likewise, closing blinds or shades during the day in the summer helps limit interior heat gain, helping reduce potential cooling costs.

Wilcox said Pella SmartSync technology helps increase a home’s energy efficiency. In fact, between-the-glass blinds or shades featuring this technology can manage the sun’s light and heat over two times more efficiently than windows without blinds or shades, according to Wilcox.
