ScaleMP, a leading provider of virtualization solutions for high-end computing, today announced that Leibniz-Institut Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH (DSMZ) has adopted vSMP Foundation. vSMP Foundation delivers an effective alternative to proprietary, costly symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) system, aggregating the power of multiple commodity x86 servers into one larger virtual SMP.
“DSMZ did not have dedicated HPC staff or facility, nor did it have any servers,” said Dr. Boyke Bunk, Group Leader – DNA sequencing and Bioinformatics, DSMZ. “ScaleMP’s vSMP Foundation made it possible for our DSMZ scientists to make the leap from laptop computing to an easy-to-use high performance computing (HPC) solution, enabling us to run Ubuntu — one of the largest Ubuntu deployments worldwide with 192 cores on a single system — for our application needs.”
“More and more organizations are turning to vSMP Foundation,” said Shai Fultheim, founder and CEO of ScaleMP. “And for good reason: this virtual aggregation solution delivers high performance for the cost of a cluster, with the flexibility to grow the system as workloads increase.”
About vSMP Foundation
vSMP Foundation aggregates multiple industry-standard off-the-shelf x86 servers into one single virtual high-end system. vSMP Foundation provides customers with an alternative to traditional expensive symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) systems and also offers simplified clustering infrastructure with a single operating system. It supports aggregation of up to 128 servers into a single virtual SMP system, providing customers with:
- Up to 64 TB of shared memory for large memory requirements;
- Up to 1,024 processors (10,240 cores) virtual SMP, proven scalability and record-breaking memory bandwidth;
- Ease of use and lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for applications, with simplified cluster management and storage architecture;
- Improved cluster utilization by providing a centralized and consolidated architecture.
About ScaleMP
ScaleMP is the leader in virtualization for high-end computing, providing maximum performance and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). The innovative Versatile SMP™ (vSMP) architecture aggregates multiple x86 systems into a single virtual x86 system, delivering an industry-standard, high-end symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) computer. Using software to replace custom hardware and components, ScaleMP offers a new, revolutionary computing paradigm.
