Citrix iPad Receiver v5 with a Hosted VDI desktop and Google Earth

Our latest iPad client came out today and there's been a lot of comparisons recently around performance with other vendors in our market so I hope this will demonstrate how much performance you can get out of a simple tablet device. Here's a very simple demo for you to look over to see what you think of the latest version. The demo was done over my home ADSL connection which had a latency of between 120ms and 240ms back to where the VM is hosted. The line also has a total capacity of 1.4 meg according to SpeedTest.net although the test only took up 120k at it's peak. The external connection was secured in SSL via a Citrix Access Gateway. I may do a demo on a LAN but this will show you worst case performance so it's probably more applicable to mobile devices anyway. The desktop itself is a Windows7 VM with 2GB and 2vCPUs attached to it running on XenServer 5.6 (I haven't upgraded the lab yet). 2 CPUs are recommended for doing CPU rendering which is how Google Earth is running in this test. More information on how to use the CPU to render Google Earth rather than an expensive GPU can be found at support.citrix.com Please excuse any fat-finger presses but I couldn't stand over the iPad otherwise you'd have only seen my reflection. I tried to be as accurate as possible but it wasn't easy as I was sat at 45 degrees. No smoke and mirrors, just how it was on the day. Just as it should be. Comments welcome.
