The benefits include greater availability, live migration for scheduled hardware maintenance, and a common virtualization layer which allows organizations to plan and execute on disaster recovery. The perceived barriers to virtualizing mission critical workloads are associated with performance and vendor support. On the performance side, the virtualization challenges for mission critical applications have been resolved for more than two years. Simply refreshing server hardware and running a modern virtualization platform will allow business critical applications to run well on virtual machines.
