Desktone, Inc., the pioneer of Desktops as a Service (DaaS), today announced that Ajubeo, a national provider of high-performance virtual datacenters and cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), has chosen the Desktone Platform as the management layer for its new Business and Enterprise Virtual Desktops. Part of a three-tier offering that includes Graphics Desktops for drafting and design users, the Business and Enterprise Virtual Desktops are native to the Unified Ajubeo Cloud Platform, a 100% uptime track record IaaS offering built on best-of-breed technology such as NetApp and VMware. Ajubeo selected Desktone on account of the operational efficiency gains at the on-boarding level, increasing speed-to-market for large-scale customer Virtual Desktop requirements.
“With more businesses embracing BYOD and looking for cost-effective ways to support mobile workforces, the interest in DaaS has grown substantially. It’s clearly the next big cloud service revenue opportunity,” said Danny Allan, CTO Desktone. “Ajubeo is a proven provider of high-performance cloud-hosted services, and understands better than most what it takes to deliver superior cloud offerings. We’re extremely pleased Ajubeo chose Desktone to power its new DaaS offering.”
“Desktone is an integral part of our cloud-based Business and Enterprise Virtual Desktop offering, enabling faster, more efficient customer on-boarding and management,” commented Tom Whitcomb, Ajubeo Co-Founder and Colorado CIO of the Year. “Desktone’s multi-tenant platform is an ideal solution for cloud services providers delivering large-scale Virtual Desktop environments. It has also contributed to an optimized cost structure that reduces desktop total cost of ownership by 42% or more when compared to the traditional workstation model.”
DaaS has unique requirements—including massive scalability, resiliency and the ability to securely handle multiple geographies and tenants—which can’t be met by porting traditional virtual desktop technologies to the cloud. Desktone’s DaaS technology was built from the ground up for cloud delivery and service providers. Unlike other approaches, Desktone employs true multi-tenancy, which enables superior security. The Desktone Platform supports all versions of desktop models, from full Windows VDI to shared RDS sessions and application delivery, from one unified console.
Additionally, Desktone has been architected for full integration with NetApp storage systems and management efficiency technologies, such as FlexClone and OnCommand. This unique capability is ideal for 100% NetApp-based clouds such as Ajubeo as it reduces the per-desktop cost structure. The Desktone/NetApp integration extends to FlashCache and Clustered Data ONTAP, which ensures Ajubeo’s sub-millisecond, ultra-low-latency cloud infrastructure platform does not experience lag with an additional management layer added to the technology stack.
“Like its partners Ajubeo and Desktone, NetApp is focused on helping businesses achieve greater success by operating as productively and efficiently as possible,” said Gary Hocking, director, Service Providers NetApp. “By building each of its Desktone-powered DaaS images on max-IOPS NetApp SAS storage, Ajubeo can rapidly provision and easily manage thousands of high-performing virtual desktops.”
