Virtualization 2.0
The first wave of virtualization was all about moving from a world where individual applications each required a physical server to a world where multiple virtualized server applications could run on the same hardware. We're moving to Virtualization 2.0, where IT organizations need to think more holistically about how virtualization can benefit the entire enterprise. Storage virtualization and network virtualization like software defined network play a role in this evolution, but it's not just about the technology. Virtualization 2.0 also requires companies to address issues around process and people, like how can the company close the skills gap and provide the right training to the existing team to function in a virtualized company. At HP Discover, I spoke with Duncan Campbell of HP, along with a team of virtualization experts about how virtualization is evolving.
